About Quilts

Sunshine Quilts are made in a variety of sizes and styles, most often using half-square triangles. This style allows for a variety of patterns using the same basic construction. These patterns include Diamond, Zig-Zag, Gemstone, and Pinwheel. Go to Contact to order your own custom quilt.

All my quilts have a flannel backing, for extra coziness! Inside the quilt is a layer of polyester or cotton batting. This ensures the quilt is warm and has some volume. I typically use polyester batting for baby quilts, and cotton batting for throw quilts, or queen size. The polyester makes the quilts appear a little fluffy, while the cotton makes for a thinner finish. There is little difference in the warmth these two fillings provide.

Both of the quilts above were custom ordered. This shows the small difference between polyester batting and cotton batting. The pink pinwheel baby quilt has polyester batting while the red zig-zag throw quilt has cotton batting. Both quilts have a soft flannel that fits the style the customer wanted.

All quilts are hand-tied. This is opposed to machine quilted. The ties ensure your quilt stays together through washings. Machine quilted quilts are often much thinner,  I prefer hand-tied quilts because the quilts keep more of the body and softness of a quilt.

If a few ties come undone or get pulled off by curious hands that's ok, but if more than half of them come off, or all of them in a large section the integrity of the quilt could be in jeopardy in the wash. I will do re-tieing services for a small fee.
